Urban Farming

Would an outdoor vertical farm be profitable that does not use any lights

The main problem with horizontal farming is the expense of energy. Would it be practical to reduce the start-up costs involved in buying suns and paying for electricity by setting up vertical growing towers outdoors? I understand that the benefit of being able to grow in optimal conditions would be lost and there would be more exposure to pests, however, the benefit of being able to grow lots of greens in a small space still remains which would be ideal for an urban farm so long as the system is designed and managed well, I could see outdoor horizontal agriculture being commercially viable. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
